1/8” Clear Tempered: Industry standard; used in MOST doors. Similar to automotive glass, this glass will not shatter when struck: it will “spider-web” (crack in a webbed pattern). ¼” Safety Laminate Glass: Used in stock solid hardwood glass doors manufactured by Dublin Millwork. A cost-effective alternative to tempered glass, safety laminate glass will not shatter when struck. Constructed from two layers of 1/8” single strength glass laminated (glued together) with a clear polymer adhesive. Meets building codes where the exposed glass surface (per lite or glass panel) does not exceed 3 square feet. ¼” Clear Tempered: Same as the 1/8” tempered glass, required by code in commercial applications. Safety laminate may be substituted for tempered, provided exposed glass surface does not exceed 3 square feet. ¼” Clear/Beveled Glass: Available for customers who want a distinctive look. Significantly more expensive than flat glass, each side of one surface of the panel has a one inch bevel. By code, beveled glass must be tempered. Insulated Glass: Used in doors for exterior applications. Similar to window glass: two pieces of glass (laminated or tempered, dependent upon size of glass panel) with an aluminum spacer between panes and sealed on all four sides with a polymer. The air between the panes serves as an insulator between indoor and outdoor air. “Art” Glass: also known as “stained” glass. Recommend that customer purchases art glass from a vendor who specializes in this type of work. Dublin Millwork will coordinate logistics (size of finished glass panel, etc.) with selected vendor for installation in door. “Opaque” Glass: also known as “chip” glass or “diffusing” glass. Similar to glass found in shower doors. Check with millwork sales professional at Dublin Millwork regarding types, availability and pricing of opaque glass. |
